Back in Commission

By Drew | Filed in Uncategorized | 4 comments

I have been out of commission the last couple of weeks with a lot of crazy stuff going on. I have come back from the brink of insanity and will begin to post some new content to the Blog in the next bit. Hopefully some of the content will (finally) be some pictures of my tanks.

The RKM-NET How to

By Drew | Filed in Uncategorized | 2 comments

So, I have been fighting with my new Reef Keeper Elite NET module for several days now. I have (hopefully) finally gotten it setup properly. So, in the hopes of saving everyone some headaches, I am going to post how I got my NET module working. I am assuming you have already flashed the 1.10 firmware. I do not claim to be an expert on this stuff, but I hope to help out if I can.

As you can see, the feed for my RKE-NET is live. I currently have it linked to both a widget on the left sidebar and to its own page. What do you think? Where should I leave it? I’m leaning towards the homepage at the moment. I am really juiced. I don’t have a ton of technical know-how when it comes to ISP and IP adddress, but with the help of the DA forum and RC, I seem to have gotten it work. FTW!

Now, if I could only figure out how to get the font of the widget title to match the rest of the theme’s widgets…

Water Test Results

By Drew | Filed in Uncategorized | No comments yet.

I ran some water tests on the 90 gallon reef today. Overall, things look pretty good. I removed a heater that appeared to be stuck on and the tempurature of the tank dropped to 80 degrees. Without further ado:

pH: 8.08

Ammonia: 0

Nitrite: 0

Nitrate: 0

dKH: 8

Calcium: 440

Phosphate: <.03

Making Fish Food

By Drew | Filed in Uncategorized | No comments yet.

I made some fish food tonight. The process is pretty simple and the food is nutritious for the fish and cheap to make. The only piece of equipment that is absolutely necessary to do this to a blender or food processor.

Reef Keepers’ note: A happy marriage would necessitate the purchase of a cheap blender for this purpose. Wives do not look kindly on you using their blender to purée seafood. Apparently it is gross to drink daiquiris out of a blender that has previously had squid in it. Who knew?

Well the unit has been running for two days now. While the graphing functionality of the RKE will not be operational until I get my Net module next week, the temperature of the tank appears to have gone down.

Azoo 2 Fan Cooling Unit

By Drew | Filed in Uncategorized | No comments yet.

I have recently become concerned with the temperature my tank has been reaching. I checked the other evening before lights out and the tank was at 83 degrees. So I hopped online and purchased the Azoo 2 Fan Cooling fan to attach in my sump to help keep the water temperature down.

Changing Phosphate Media

By Drew | Filed in Uncategorized | One comment

It is time to change the phosphate media in my NextReef MR-1 reactor. But first, a little about the NextReef Mr-1 reactor. The reason that I chose the NextReef reactor is because it is massive! It will be more than large enough when I upgrade to the 210. Since it is so big, I would not fit into my cheapo cabinet on my 90, but it also comes standard with a hang on bracket (which is another reason that I chose over some other models. The quality of the unit is excellent and I really like it. My Phosphate levels were approximately .8 mg/L when I added the unit. Today, they test at <.03 mg/L . I run a Maxi-Jet 600 for flow and currently am using RowaPhos media. Read on for the Reactor cleaning and media changing.
